Collection

Collectors… Does anyone have the entire Lil Missy Collection?  I’m going off the wikipedia list and according to that list I need the following dolls:

  • 13385 Her Royal Majesty
  • 13340 Chocolate Kiss
  • 13446 Moss Rose/Flower Series
  • 13457 August – Peridot
  • 13904 Pink Bird of Happiness
  • 13907 Red/Christmas Bird of Happiness

Dolls on the wikipedia list that I’m not sure if they really belong on the list:

  • 13357 Orphan Denise
  • 13358 Runaway Denise
  • unk model # Snowball Fight
  • 13385 Her Royal Majesty – not sure as 13421 Her Royal Highness is on the list too however there are two Southern Belles so its quite possible Her Royal Majesty and Her Royal Highness are both part of the collection.

Also, another collector has told me that the following 3 dolls could only be ordered from the catalog.  I do not remember seeing these 3 sold in the stores all those years ago:

13330 – Sue
13331 – Liza
13332 – Sherri

Anyone who has the entire collection can you verify the wikipedia list?  If there are others missing let me know and I can update The Collection link on the website.

My goal for the website is to document the entire collection.

Thank you

  1. Hi there,

I do know of an additional Sulyn model. They also did a version of Granny.

I think Her Royal Highness and Her Royal Majesty are the same but I can’t be sure.

    Thanks

    1. Thanks for letting me know about Sulyn Granny, posted the picture of her. Until I started the website I didn’t know that Sulyn was manufacturing the dolls too.

I’m still on the lookout for acquiring the last 5 that I need!

    1. Maureen,
Do you have the entire collection?
The image I have posted in the Misc column – Holiday catalog 1982, there is an insert showing, “Join our New Mail Order Limited Edition Lil Missy Collector Club” it says that if you joined there were limited edition dolls that were designed by artist Irene Kuebler.
Were you a club member? So this is probably where the other collector obtained these 3 dolls:
      13330 – Sue
      13331 – Liza
      13332 – Sherri
I was not in the Collectors Club so I don’t have these dolls.

  2. That’s really exciting to hear. I did these kits when I was a child but was never a member of the club. I often wondered who designed these dolls. I’d love to talk to people who used to work for this section of Holiday/Walco. Wouldn’t that be cool?

But the short answer is, no I wasn’t a member of the club but I sure wish I was. Did you publish a picture of that insert? I’d love to see it. Also, feel free to use my direct email as well.

    Maureen

  3. Hi again,

Also, I don’t have the entire collection. I’m trying to get a few more myself. I have about 120 of them. So I have a few more to get. Also, I did see that insert when reading the catalog picture carefully. I bet those are pretty cool.

  4. Four more dolls to acquire:
    13340 Chocolate Kiss
    13446 Moss Rose/Flower Series
    13904 Pink Bird of Happiness
    13907 Red/Christmas Bird of Happiness

Won the August – Peridot doll, I know she has the wrong head (brunette with ponies) she should have a red head. Hope I have a spare one.

    1. Hi there, if I see those I’ll let you know. Glad you got August. I noticed some have the rings and some don’t. I’m ordering some from oriental trading company. Hopefully they match.

      All the best.

      1. You’re right about the rings. I’ve found that if the Dolls of the Month come in the bag then the ring was included if the doll came in the box the ring(s) were not included. Great catch with the Oriental Trading Co. as the place to obtain rings. Let me know if they match because I need rings too. I want to say I need four. If they match I’ll need to purchase them too! And I do have a spare red head for August. My doll work is piling up on me. I have a handful that need doctoring and couple that I need to put together this will likely be my winter project(s). I’ll then have to take new pictures and update the slideshow home page.

        1. That’s funny, I found it to be the opposite, the ones in the boxes have the rings and the ones in the bags don’t. The only way to get the rings was to order them in a lot of 36. So, I got three for each month.

If you’re comfortable sharing your address, I’m happy to send you the ones you need free of charge, if they match. I will get them on April 23rd, according to FedEx.

    2. I am glad you won it. That was a big auction on a lot of dolls. Originally she had the sequin packs mixed up for the August and May dolls. I sent her an email and she switched them. I won the Gay 90’s, really excited. Keeping an eye out for the Hula girl. She went for a really high price on this auction, I couldn’t compete. Thank you so much for your sight. I use for a reference all the time. My husband gives me a hard time about my doll addiction. I have to get to the mailbox before him.

      1. Men just don’t understand a woman’s need for her dolls. Don’t you wish you could still buy the dolls for $3.99-$4.99. I think the highest price I paid on eBay was $65.99 which was for Scarlett O’hara. I really wish my Mom and I would of continued to buy the dolls in the late 70ies-80ies. Now I’m paying for it! The dolls near the end of the collection everyone is looking for and since they’re at the end of the collection Holiday didn’t manufacture as many as in the beginning of the collection so the end ones today are harder to acquire that are still in the kit. I need 4 more dolls to complete the collection. It may take me a while to get the last four but I’m hooked and I have to complete the collection. Glad you enjoy the website.

    3. Almost at the finish line….
      Three more dolls to acquire:
      13446 Moss Rose/Flower Series
      13904 Pink Bird of Happiness
      13907 Red/Christmas Bird of Happiness

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Maureen for graciously donating Chocolate Kiss! She’ll be in a prominent place once I get her built!

      1. I just purchased 2 of the club dolls the other day. Thought you might like to have pictures. Just let me know where I can send them. They are called Lil Miss Lovelies and I found Sue & Liza. Really excited to have found them. Now I just need to track down the 3rd one.

        1. Is anyone on this blog interested in selling any of their dolls? I am interested in “Granny’s Garden” and the “Gemstones” collection. Thanks!

    1. I had to order them and you’re right the rings are a very close match. Actually you can’t tell the difference. I’m so glad you told me about the rings. I will have to replace some of the rings as they are badly tarnished and oh what fun I will have trying to unglue them. Another doll project to add to my list.

  5. Hello, I found your website and am hoping you can help point me in the right direction. I am helping to clean out my grandma’s house and found a collection of 57 of these dolls (assembled) in boxes. Do you have any recommendations on where or how to post? My preference would be selling them to someone who will appreciate them vs. part of the estate sale. Thank you

    1. Hi Jenn,
Most of the dolls being sold are posted on eBay or Amazon. The difficulty with selling already assembled dolls is what the condition of the dolls are. Collectors may also be looking for parts: heads, accessory pieces, replacing yellowed fabric and/or hands etc. Most of the time already assembled dolls start at $5.99 and go up from there. If the 57 dolls you have are at the beginning of collection those aren’t as rare as the ones at the end of the collection, rare dolls are those manufactured after 1979. If you look at the Collection link on the site the dolls under Holiday Dolls 1976-1979 column near the bottom are those which collectors are really looking for. I still am looking for 4 dolls to complete the entire collection. You may want to look at the Miscellaneous Pictures titled Catalogue as some of the dolls were originally sold together such as the Nursery Rhyme dolls which there are 5-Mother Goose, Little Bo Peep, Mary Quite Contrary, Queen of Hearts, and Little Red Riding Hood. Also there are 3 Cinderellas: Cinderella before the ball, at the ball, and Fairy GodMother. Misc Picture 3 also show doll sets for Granny’s Garden Set, Penny Candy Set, Little Woman Set and 4 dolls that make up the “Happiness” set.

Any dolls still in the shrink wrapped kit unopened, un-assembled are most desirable. Hope that helps. Thanks for visiting the site!

  6. Hey there,

I have a plan for you to get one of the dolls you need. Please send me an email. I’d like to talk offline.

    Thanks,

    Maureen

  7. They have the •13340 Chocolate Kiss up for auction on ebay. It actually is the entire set of 4 Penny Candy Collection. Thought of you when I saw it.

  8. I am wondering if there are any Li’l Missy dolls that have red “gloves/hands”? My brother, who is Autistic, was wanting a doll with red “gloves”.

    Any information would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    1. Hi Carrie,
Sorry, no dolls with red gloves/hands. The Entertainer and Gay 90’s are the two only dolls with non-white hands; black. I don’t recall any other dolls with hands other than white.
      Happy collecting!

  9. Still have my collection of 50+! Can’t believe how popular they have become. Does anyone know where I can purchase the heads and/or styrofoam doll bodies? Thank You!

      1. Thank you for replying so promptly! I’m going to be busy checking the sites. My granddaughter and I are planning on making some with our leftover beads and sequins!

  10. I just saw on ebay up for auction a new one # 14004 Autumn Harvest it is the Scarecrow in a centerpiece. Thought you might what to add this to your list.

  11. I have a sealed Violet Kit which is number 13447……I noticed you have 13448 for her…..don’t know if she was issued under two numbers? Mine looks like yours but with a different number. I can send photos if you want . Not sure how to post it here.

  12. I don’t have any of my dolls any more. When I was a little girl, around 1st or 2nd grade, my parents began gifting me Little Missy Bead Doll kits for Christmas and Birthdays. I had, at one point, about six or seven dolls. My sisters did not appreciate the artistry of then, and the little beauties would often stray from my dresser. I was feeling nostalgic when I searched out this list. I loved my Liberty and the three Christmas dolls I made. What a fun memory! I think that being independent with the craft, and creating such lovely things while young was so important in shaping me as an artist.

  13. Hi Ladies, I am so grateful to see other women who enjoyed the Li’l Missy dolls. When I was a young girl, I too did these kits with my mom. I had accumulated quite a few of them by the time I left for college. But they did not survive the many moves of my early career.
I am thinking about re-launching a line of similar dolls. I can not find the bodies anymore, so I would make them myself. If I proceed, I plan to use the instructions from the original kits, and as many of the original parts as I can find.
Do you have any interest in that? Are there any kits in particular that you would love to build?
I will have to be able to find one or each style to use as my model. The instructions would be fantastic.
    What are your thoughts?

    1. I have a huge plastic bin full of left overs from all my dolls. I have saved all the instructions and patterns as well. Let me know if you need anything.
